Gilberdyke
Gilberdyke is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It lies about 20 miles southeast of York and 19 miles west of Hull, near Howden. The parish includes the village of Gilberdyke and the hamlets Bennetland, Hive, Sandholme and Scalby. The B1230 road passes through the village, and it is about 1 mile south of the M62.
Population: 3,430 at the 2011 census (rising from 3,028 in 2001).
Gilberdyke has a railway station with services between Scarborough/Bridlington via Hull to Doncaster and Sheffield, and a Hull–Selby–York route.
History: The place was recorded as Dyc/Dyke in the 13th–14th centuries; Gilberdyke appears in 1349 and Gilbertdike in 1376. The origin of the name Gilbertdike is unknown.
In 1823, it was part of the Eastrington parish, in the Holderness area and the Liberty of St Peter. At that time the population including Hive and Sandholme was about 640, with several trades listed.
Notable: Danny Worsnop, who has sung with We Are Harlot and Asking Alexandria, grew up in Gilberdyke.
