Dumingag is a municipality in Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. It is the northernmost town in the province, located on the Zamboanga Peninsula near the Salug Valley. The town has about 48,881 people (2020 census) and is made up of 44 barangays.

Origin of the name and early people
Local stories say the name Dumingag came from Subanen names Dumi and Ingag or from a phrase meaning “I won” after a cockfight, though these tales aren’t supported by solid records. The original inhabitants were Subanen people from nearby areas. Later settlers from Iloilo’s Dumangas arrived and called the place “Little Dumangas,” which evolved into Dumingag.

Dumingag started as a barrio of Molave and became its own municipality on December 27, 1957, by Executive Order No. 283 issued by President Carlos P. Garcia. Since then, five mayors have led the town. A notable event during the 1970s–1980s was a deadly incident in 1982 when Ilaga militia killed 12 people in Dumingag amid broader Mindanao conflicts.
