From 2007 to 2009, the AFL and the Australian Army ran the AFL Army Award to honour players who showed bravery or selflessness for their team during a game. After each of the 22 regular rounds, a panel selected three nominees for a public vote. The weekly winners were reviewed by the AFL All-Australian Selection Committee to create a shortlist for another public vote. The final winner needed the panel’s endorsement.
