The Much Wenlock Limestone Formation is a group of Silurian limestone rocks from the Homerian age, part of the Wenlock period. It is exposed in the Welsh Marches of England and Wales and is about 29 meters thick at its main section. It lies above the Coalbrookdale Formation and below the Elton Formation. The rocks are mainly nodular or thinly bedded limestone, with reef areas at Wenlock Edge and near Wren’s Nest by Dudley. It is divided into three units: the Lower Quarried Limestone Member, the Nodular Beds Member, and the Upper Quarried Limestone Member. Different parts show various lithofacies formed under different conditions, but they were all deposited in a shallow tropical sea between the storm wave base and the fair-weather wave base.
