Sainik School, Rewa
Sainik School Rewa, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, is one of 33 Sainik Schools in India. It is a fully residential English‑medium school that helps prepare students to join the Indian armed forces. Established on 20 July 1962 by the Government of India, the school is located at the Yuvraj Bhawan estate of Maharaja Martand Singh Judeo, the former prince of Rewa. Since its start, the school has helped produce about 950 officers. It is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and is a member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC).
The school is run by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. A National Board of Governors, chaired by the Defence Minister, oversees the society. Each school has a Local Board of Administration chaired by a senior defence officer. The principal leads the school, supported by a vice principal and an administrative officer.
Campus and location: The 274-acre campus sits in Rewa. The climate is hot in summer and cold in winter. Rewa lies on NH 7 and is about 550 km from Bhopal, 235 km from Jabalpur, and 578 km from Raipur; it can be reached by road and rail. The school is close to Rewa’s bus stand and railway station, making travel convenient.
Facilities: The main building houses administrative offices, classrooms for classes VI to XII, an IT center with about 50 computers, science laboratories, an auditorium, a library, and various workshops. The school is fully residential, with five senior and five junior houses (hostels) run by housemasters. Junior houses were named Abhimanyu, Bharat, and Luv‑Kush, with Dhruv and Eklavya added later; senior houses are named after rivers and mountains of Madhya Pradesh. Each house has study and recreation areas, and a central cadet mess serves both vegetarian and non‑vegetarian meals.
Sports and activities: There are extensive sports facilities, including basketball, volleyball, hockey, tennis, football, swimming, skating, and horse riding, plus an athletic field with a 400-meter track and other event areas. The campus also has three helipads and a gym. NCC is part of the curriculum with Army, Naval, and Air Wings; morning PT and evening games are compulsory. Centralized mountaineering and trekking programs are conducted as well.
Admissions: Entry is in classes VI, IX, and XI. Admissions for VI and IX are based on an entrance exam held in January, followed by an interview and medical exam in Jabalpur. XI admissions consider the X‑class results, interview, and medical exam. For 10+2, Mathematics is compulsory, with Biology or Computer Science as options. Forms are sold October–December, with the last date in the first week of December and the entrance exam on the first Sunday of January.
Alumni: Former students are called Sainwinians. They include politicians, bureaucrats, doctors, engineers, journalists, entrepreneurs, and many military leaders, with several awarded medals such as Vir Chakra, Shaurya Chakra, and Sena Medal.
