Ağbənd is a small town in Azerbaijan’s Zangilan District, near the place where Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Iran meet. It is located at about 38.90°N latitude and 46.57°E longitude.

Historically, the village relied on farming and livestock. It had a club, a library, and a first-aid post.

In 1993, during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, Armenian forces took control of Ağbənd. It then became part of the Armenian-occupied territories around Nagorno-Karabakh and was included in the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh’s Kashatagh Province, where it was known as Aghopen.

Ağbənd was recaptured by Azerbaijan on 22 October 2020 during the Aras Valley campaign of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, reestablishing Azerbaijani control along the Azerbaijan–Iran border.
