Le Soler XIII
Le Soler XIII is a French rugby league club from Le Soler in the Pyrénées-Orientales, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Founded in 1955 and refounded in 2008 after closing, the club now plays in National Division 2 (Languedoc-Roussillon). Home matches are held at Stade Municipal Le Soler. The team’s colours are black and white hoops (the club’s logo still features the original red shirts and yellow shorts).
Current leadership includes Chairman Georges Llado, Eric Navarro, and Vincent Guittard; Coach Damien Charles; Manager Jean-Baptiste Llado.
History highlights:
- 1959: runners-up in the second division (now National Division 1).
- Early 1980s: a strong period under player-coach Cesar Rodriguez, producing players like Jacques Jorda, Michel Charcos, Antoine Gonzalez, and Jo Bruzy.
- 1982/83: won the Federal Division (National Division 2) 47-0 against RC Lescure-Arthes XIII.
- 1983/84: won the National 2 title after beating Saint-Paul Fenouilledes XIII and earned promotion to the second tier. They also had a notable Lord Derby Cup run, defeating Palau XIII Broncos, Limoux Grizzlies, and Pennautier XIII; in the semi-final they lost to XIII Catalan 5-15 in Perpignan in front of about 5,000 fans.
- After periods of relegation and struggle, the club closed in 2008 and was reformed as Le Soler XIII with new management and the black-and-white hoops.
- 2010: won the National Division 2 Languedoc-Rousillon League.
- 2011/12: won the overall National Division 2 title by beating US Trentels XIII 23-12, earning promotion.
- In following years they spent time in National Division 1 before being relegated back to the fourth tier.
