2022 European Weightlifting Championships
2022 European Weightlifting Championships were held in Tirana, Albania, from 28 May to 5 June 2022. The event was moved from Sofia, Bulgaria, after a leadership dispute. A total of 285 lifters from 39 nations competed.
Medal and team results
- Bulgaria led the medal table, with Ukraine, Armenia, Turkey and Italy among the top nations as well.
- In the men’s events, the competition covered weight classes from 55 kg up to +109 kg; women competed from 45 kg to +87 kg.
- Notable performances included Antonino Pizzolato of Italy setting world records in the men’s 89 kg class (Clean & Jerk 217 kg and total 392 kg). In the heaviest men’s category, Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia won the +109 kg class with a total of 462 kg.
- Team rankings saw Bulgaria leading the men’s team standings, with Armenia and Georgia close behind. In the women’s team rankings, Turkey topped the table, followed by Ukraine and Great Britain.
Participation
- Turkey and Ukraine sent the most lifters, with 18 athletes each. Other large delegations came from the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Armenia, Bulgaria, Albania, and Denmark.

- The championships brought together Europe’s best lifters across all standard Olympic weight classes.
- The event yielded a comprehensive set of results and a results book was published by the European Weightlifting Federation.
