Whole blood clotting test

Whole blood clotting test: Purpose – to check how blood clots after a snake bite. If the blood does not clot within 20 minutes (a finding seen with bites in Southeast Asia), it suggests the bite was from a viper rather than an elapid. The test also helps assess how well antivenom therapy is working and the severity of defibrinogenation in envenomed blood. How it’s done – collect 2 ml of venous blood in a dry, clean glass tube. After 20 minutes, check whether a clot has formed and how stable it is.
