2018 Navajo Nation presidential election

The Navajo Nation held its presidential election on November 6, 2018, after a primary on August 28 with 18 candidates. The general election matched Jonathan Nez, with running mate Myron Lizer, against Joe Shirley Jr., with running mate Buu Nygren. Nez and Lizer won, defeating Shirley by about two-to-one. Nez received 41,261 votes (about 66.5%), while Shirley received 20,751 votes (about 33.5%). Nez became president, succeeding Russell Begaye. Turnout was about 66.5%. A referendum to raise salaries for the President and Vice President did not pass (39,026 no, 19,439 yes).
