Lake Maraetai is an artificial lake on New Zealand’s Waikato River in the North Island. It was created for hydroelectric power. The lake sits near Mangakino, about 85 kilometers southeast of Hamilton. It covers about 4.4 square kilometers and can be as deep as 75 meters. At the northern end, two power stations, Maraetai I and Maraetai II, together generate around 360 megawatts of electricity.
