2017–18 Sacramento Kings season
2017–18 Sacramento Kings season
The Kings finished 27–55, led by head coach Dave Joerger, general manager Vlade Divac, and owner Vivek Ranadivé, playing at the Golden 1 Center. They finished 4th in the Pacific Division and 12th in the Western Conference, and did not qualify for the playoffs.
This season extended Sacramento’s NBA-record streak of 12 straight losing seasons and a 12-year playoff drought—the last winning season came in 2005–06 (44–38) with a first‑round exit to the Spurs.
Draft and trades recap
- De’Aaron Fox was selected with a top pick the Kings acquired through a complex set of trades involving Philadelphia; the pick originally became Zach Collins and was later traded to Portland for two more first‑round choices.
- Those Portland picks were used to draft Justin Jackson (small forward/shooting guard) and Harry Giles (center), while Frank Mason III was taken in the second round (pick acquired via New Orleans through the DeMarcus Cousins trade).
- In the big trade, Sacramento sent DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi to New Orleans in return for Tyreke Evans, Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway, and a pair of Pelicans’ first- and second-round picks.
Key players
- De’Aaron Fox, the Kings’ top pick, came from Kentucky and was expected to anchor the lineup.
- Justin Jackson and Harry Giles were the other first-round picks, with Frank Mason III as the key second-round addition.
The season reflected Sacramento’s ongoing rebuild, as the team focused on developing young talents like Fox and Hield while trying to improve in the coming years.
