List of AFC Fylde seasons
A concise history of AFC Fylde seasons (1988–2019)
AFC Fylde began in 1988 as Kirkham & Wesham, a merger of Kirkham Town and Wesham. They started in the West Lancashire League Division One in 1988–89 and were relegated to Division Two the next season. They were promoted back to Division One in 1993 but were relegated again after two seasons. They finished as runners-up in 1996 to win promotion.
Their third spell in Division One, renamed the Premier Division in 1998, lasted 11 seasons. They won the Premier Division seven times, including the 2007 title, which earned promotion to the North West Counties League Division Two for 2007–08. They finished as runners-up in Division Two and were promoted to the Premier Division. That season they also won the FA Vase at Wembley, beating Lowestoft Town 2–1. After this success, the club adopted the name AFC Fylde.
In 2009 Fylde won the North West Counties Premier Division, earning promotion to the Northern Premier League Division One North. They played in the FA Vase again in 2008–09, reaching the fourth round, and entered the FA Cup qualifying rounds for the first time in 2008–09, losing in the preliminary round to Sheffield. The 2009–10 season saw them in the FA Trophy for the first time, and in 2010–11 they were runners-up in the promotion play-offs.
In 2011–12 they won the Division One North title and moved up to the Premier Division. After two seasons there with playoff campaigns, they won promotion to the Conference North in 2013–14 through the play-offs.
Their first season in the Conference North saw them near the top of the table, and in their first Conference North season they finished second, two points behind Barrow, earning automatic promotion. They also reached the play-offs but were eliminated by Guiseley in the semi-finals. The league was renamed National League North the following season.
Fylde finished third in National League North, qualifying for the play-offs, and reached the final but were runners-up to North Ferriby United. In 2016–17 they won the National League North title and were promoted to the National League, the fifth tier of English football.
Their first National League season (2017–18) saw them finish seventh and reach the play-offs, where they lost to Boreham Wood in the quarter-finals. In 2018–19 they finished fifth, again reaching the play-offs, defeating Harrogate Town and Solihull Moors before losing to Salford City in the final. That season they also reached their first FA Trophy final, beating Leyton Orient 1–0.
