The 2016 Coates Hire V8 Supercars Challenge was held from 17–20 March 2016 at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria. It was a non-championship event run during the Australian Grand Prix weekend, marking the 31st edition of the Challenge. The weekend featured four races: one 60 km race (11 laps) and three 65 km races (12 laps). A single qualifying session on Thursday set the grid for Race 1, with Jamie Whincup taking pole in 1:56.5634, just ahead of Mark Winterbottom.

Race results:
- Race 1 (11 laps, 60 km): Shane van Gisbergen won; Jamie Whincup finished second; Chaz Mostert finished third.
- Race 2 (12 laps, 65 km): Shane van Gisbergen won; Jamie Whincup second; Chaz Mostert third.

Notes: The event used rolling starts. There were several on-track incidents and penalties during the weekend, including a A$3,000 burnout fine for Whincup after Race 3 and a five-place grid penalty for Wood for Race 4 due to an earlier incident. Weather varied from fine to light rain on some days.
