List of Knights and Dames Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order appointed by Elizabeth II (1978–2002)
The Royal Victorian Order is a British honor given by the monarch for personal service to the royal family and the organization of important royal events. It was created in 1896 by Queen Victoria and has five grades. The top two grades—Knight Grand Cross (GCVO) and Knight Commander (KCVO)—carry knighthood for men; foreigners usually receive honorary awards that do not confer a title.
Women were admitted to the order in 1936. When women receive the top two grades, they are titled Dame Grand Cross or Dame Commander (DCVO). There is no fixed limit on how many appointments can be made.
Between 1978 and 2002, Queen Elizabeth II appointed 58 Knights and 6 Dames Grand Cross. The full list is arranged in order of appointment date and includes names, ranks, and titles as they stood at the time, with service branch details and the occasions of the awards noted where available.
