2014 Sunrisers Hyderabad season
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) played in the 2014 Indian Premier League as a Hyderabad-based franchise. The team was coached by Tom Moody, and captaincy started with Shikhar Dhawan, who was later replaced by Darren Sammy during the season.
Their home ground was the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, which has a 55,000 seater capacity. The 2014 season was partly held outside India due to the Lok Sabha elections, with the opening 20 IPL matches, including SRH’s, played in the UAE before the rest of the games returned to India from May 2. SRH finished 6th in the group stage and did not qualify for the playoffs.
Key players: David Warner scored the most runs for SRH (528) and also made the most catches (8). Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the most wickets (20). Naman Ojha made the most wicket-keeping dismissals (7).
Squad changes: SRH retained Shikhar Dhawan and Dale Steyn. They released many players and added several new ones, including David Warner, Darren Sammy, Amit Mishra, Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Brendan Taylor, Moisés Henriques, and Parvez Rasool. They used two Right To Match cards to bring back Amit Mishra and Darren Sammy.
Branding: In 2014, IPL’s brand value rose to about US$3.2 billion, and SRH’s brand value increased by about 57% to around US$25 million from US$15.9 million in 2013.
