2012 United States House of Representatives elections in Minnesota

The 2012 elections for Minnesota’s eight U.S. House seats were held on November 6, 2012, with primary elections on August 14. A redistricting plan proposed in 2011 was debated, vetoed by the governor, and ultimately a court-drawn map created a “least-change” adjustment to district boundaries.

- Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) party won 5 seats ( gain of 1 seat)
- Republican party won 3 seats (loss of 1 seat)
- DFL won about 55.5% of the statewide vote; Republicans about 43.0%

1st district
- Tim Walz (DFL) defeated Allen Quist (Republican)
- Vote: Walz 57.5%; Quist 42.3%

2nd district
- John Kline (Republican) defeated Mike Obermueller (DFL)
- Vote: Kline 54.0%; Obermueller 45.9%

3rd district
- Erik Paulsen (Republican) defeated Brian Barnes (DFL)
- Vote: Paulsen 58.1%; Barnes 41.8%

4th district
- Betty McCollum (DFL) defeated Tony Hernandez (Republican) and Steve Carlson (Independent)
- Vote: McCollum 62.3%; Hernandez 31.5%; Carlson 6.1%

5th district
- Keith Ellison (DFL) defeated Chris Fields (Republican)
- Vote: Ellison 74.5%; Fields 25.2%

6th district
- Michele Bachmann (Republican) defeated Jim Graves (DFL)
- Vote: Bachmann 50.5%; Graves 49.3%

7th district
- Collin Peterson (DFL) defeated Lee Byberg (Republican)
- Vote: Peterson 60.4%; Byberg 34.8%

8th district
- Rick Nolan (DFL) defeated Chip Cravaack (Republican)
- Vote: Nolan 54.3%; Cravaack 45.4%
