Qikiqtani General Hospital
Qikiqtani General Hospital (QGH) is a 35-bed acute care hospital in Iqaluit, Nunavut. It is the territory’s only hospital. It started as the Baffin Regional Hospital in 1962 and became QGH in 2007. By 2013 it had four birthing rooms and two operating rooms. The hospital was heavily renovated, with work finished in 2016. The East Wing, opened in 2017, houses outpatient services, a rapid access walk-in clinic, specialty clinics, oral health, and administrative offices. Nunavut’s Health Minister at the time, George Hickes, called it a focal point in the community. With all services under one roof, ER and public health included, the hospital handled spring patient surges more easily in 2018. QGH provides services in cardiology, gynaecology, dermatology, rheumatology, neurology, internal medicine, respirology, urology, orthopaedics, paediatric cardiology, allergist services, ENT, and ophthalmology.
