2012 Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge

The 2012 Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge took place on August 4, 2012 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Ohio. It was the sixth round of the 2012 American Le Mans Series, and the race lasted two hours and 45 minutes. Drivers completed 123 laps of the 3.6 km circuit, covering a total distance of 447 km.

The overall winner was Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, with Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf driving an HPD ARX-03a Honda. They won by more than a lap ahead of Dyson Racing Team’s Lola B12/60. It was Luhr’s third outright win at Mid-Ohio and Graf’s second, making it their fifth straight win as a duo.

In the LMP2 class, Level 5 Motorsports claimed the class win in their HPD ARX-03b, beating Conquest Endurance’s Morgan LMP2 by seven seconds. It was Scott Tucker’s fifth win of the season and Christophe Bouchut’s fourth.

The Prototype Challenge class winner was PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, with Rudy Junco and Marino Franchitti driving an Oreca FLM09. This marked the team’s third PC victory, following wins at Road America and Road Atlanta in 2011.

The GT class went to Corvette Racing, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in a Chevrolet Corvette, finishing just 0.2 seconds ahead of Jörg Bergmeister in Flying Lizard Motorsports. In GT Challenge, Tim Pappas and Jeroen Bleekemolen won for JDX Racing, their first win of the year, with Bleekemolen earning his second win after Monterey. TRG finished second in class with Al Carter and Spencer Pumpelly.

Overall, 29 of the 32 entries were still running at the finish.
