Jaime Morris
Jaime Morris, born Samuel James Morris Campbell (3 February 1842 – 12 December 1909), was an English engineer and businessman who became a pioneer of football in Catalonia. He grew up in London and spent time abroad, including in the Far East, before settling in the Philippines in 1868, where he married several times and had eleven children.
In 1889 Morris moved to Barcelona to run two tram companies and helped electrify the city’s tram system. His work modernized Barcelona’s transport, though it was controversial at the outset.
Morris is best known for bringing football to Barcelona. He brought a football from London and taught his sons Samuel, Enrique, and Miguel how to play. He helped James Reeves form Barcelona Football Club in late 1892, one of the city’s first football clubs, and he played as a goalkeeper in early matches.
His three eldest sons—Samuel, Enrique and Miguel—went on to play for FC Barcelona, helping lay the foundations for the club’s early football history. Morris died in London on 12 December 1909.
