The 2nd African Cross Country Championships took place on 18 March 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa, at Keurboom Park. It was organised by the Confederation of African Athletics and Athletics South Africa. Because the IAAF World Cross Country Championships was not held that year, this event was Africa’s top cross country competition.

Twenty-one nations took part, with 160 runners across four races: senior men, senior women, junior men, and junior women.

Winners:
- Senior men: Clement Langat (Kenya)
- Senior women: Joyce Chepkirui (Kenya)
- Junior men: Muktar Edris (Ethiopia)
- Junior women: Faith Kipyon (Kenya)

Teams:
- Senior men: Kenya
- Senior women: Kenya
- Junior men: Kenya
- Junior women: Ethiopia (Kenya was one runner short of a full team but won all the individual medals)
