1986 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONMEBOL)
Ten CONMEBOL teams competed for four spots in the World Cup finals. They were divided into three groups and played each other in home-and-away matches. The four group winners then faced each other in a knockout playoff (also over two legs) to decide the remaining berths. Paraguay won the playoff and qualified for the World Cup, joining Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, which also qualified from CONMEBOL.
