1977–78 Scottish Premier Division
1977–78 Scottish Premier Division: Rangers won the title, their second Premier Division title and 37th Scottish championship, finishing two points ahead of Aberdeen. Ayr United and Clydebank were relegated. For European competition the following season: Rangers – European Cup; Hibernian and Dundee United – UEFA Cup; Aberdeen – Cup Winners' Cup. There were 180 matches and 508 goals (about 2.82 per match). The top scorer was Derek Johnstone with 25 goals. The league had 10 teams, each playing 36 matches (home and away).
