1971 census of India: It was the 11th census, conducted every decade since 1872. India’s population was 547,949,809 people. Uttar Pradesh was the most populous state, with about 88.34 million people. The census form contained 35 questions, collecting information on birthplace, duration of residence at the village or town of enumeration, religion, caste status (Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes), literacy, educational level, mother tongue, other languages, and secondary work.
