1925 Chilean presidential election
Presidential elections in Chile were held on October 22, 1925. These were the first direct presidential elections in the country and the first under the 1925 constitution. The voting system required a candidate to win more than 50% of the votes; if no one did, the National Congress would choose between the two top finishers.
Emiliano Figueroa, a Liberal Democrat who ran as an independent and was backed by several parties, won the presidency with about 72% of the vote (roughly 186,000 votes). His main opponent, José Santos Salas, received about 28% (roughly 74,000 votes).
Before the election, the president was Luis Barros Borgoño of the Liberal Party; after the election, Emiliano Figueroa became president.
