Schwarzenbach Dam
Schwarzenbach Dam is a gravity dam near Forbach in the Northern Black Forest, Germany. It was built for the Rudolf-Fettweis-Werk pumped-storage power station and was completed in 1926. The dam is 65 meters high and 400 meters long, and the reservoir holds about 14.4 million cubic meters of water.
The dam is operated by EnBW Kraftwerke and helps balance electricity supply, with a maximum output of 44 MW.
Water comes from the Schwarzenbach and Seebach streams. Water from the Biberach and Hundsbach streams is redirected by tunnels from nearby valleys, and water from the Murg Dam is pumped into the reservoir.
Schwarzenbach Reservoir is a popular recreation area within the Central/North Black Forest Nature Park. People visit for hiking, swimming, fishing and windsurfing. There is a hotel near the dam wall (closed since 2011) and a boat hire stand. The southern shore borders the Black Forest National Park.
