Eber Lobato (born Herbert Lobato) was an Argentine artist who lived from March 28, 1931, to December 25, 2014. He was born in Pigüé, Buenos Aires, into a family of performers; his father was a guitarist and his mother a singer. The name Eber came from a civil registry clerk who couldn’t spell Herbert, the English name his grandmother used.

Eber worked in many art forms: actor, director, composer, choreographer, dancer, painter, costume designer, singer, cartoonist, set designer, and theater producer. He started as an actor and later directed several films during Argentina’s golden cinema era. At age 20, he joined Alfredo Alaria’s ballet company, where he met Haydée Nélida Menta, who would become Nélida Lobato. They married in 1955 and traveled to Chile and Europe, gaining international fame as a star and choreographer at the Lido in Paris in 1964.

From his marriage to Nélida they had a son, Adrián Lobato, who died young. The couple divorced in 1962. In 1967 he married his second wife, known as Sisi, with whom he had a daughter, Eliset. They lived in Las Vegas in his later years.

Lobato’s career included extensive work as a choreographer and show producer in the United States and Europe, and he performed at theaters such as Maipo, Teatro Nacional, and the Comedy Theater. He also released music, including the singles La Rosa, Aquel Domingo, and Cuando Poco Era Inmenso, and the album No hay boda. In 1981 he appeared in a television commercial for Revlon Gitane.

He passed away on December 25, 2014, in Las Vegas, at age 83, from a heart attack while with his family.
