French Meadow Bakery
French Meadow Bakery is a private bakery in the Uptown area of Minneapolis. It makes gluten-free, vegan, yeast-free, and kosher parve foods. It is one of the country’s longest-running organic bakeries. The bakery is certified organic by the USDA and Quality Assurance International, gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization, and Low Glycemic for Diabetics by the Glycemic Research Institute.
The bakery began in 1985 when Lynn Gordon, while teaching a cooking class, wanted bread that fit her macrobiotic diet—no yeast and no sugar. Since then, it has used natural ingredients and avoided artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. In July 2006, Rich Products Corporation bought French Meadow Bakery.
French Meadow also operates French Meadow Bakery and Cafe in Minneapolis, a small cafe offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It uses its baked goods alongside fresh, local, organic ingredients.
The company runs airport concessions at several airports, offering products like peanut butter cookies, carrot cake, hemp bagels, and a variety of breads.
In December 2008, French Meadow won the PETA Proggy Award for Best New Airport Concessions, recognizing efforts to end animal suffering.
