Zhou Jun (botanist)

Zhou Jun (周俊; February 5, 1932 – March 27, 2020) was a Chinese botanist who specialized in plant resources and phytochemistry. He was an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a member of the Chinese Communist Party.

He was born in Dongtai, Jiangsu, into a family of teachers and grew up with five brothers. He completed his early education in Danyang and Nanjing, attending Nanjing National Pharmaceutical School, and later worked at East China Pharmaceutical College and the East China Health Bureau. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1949.

In 1954 he entered the East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology) to study pharmaceutical engineering, graduating in 1958. After graduation, he was assigned to the Kunming Institute of Botany, where he rose from associate research fellow in 1978 to research fellow in 1986, and served as director from January 1983 to January 1990.

Zhou Jun died on March 27, 2020, in Kunming, Yunnan, at the age of 88. He was married to Chen Siying, and they had three children.
