Diocese of Rouyn-Noranda
The Diocese of Rouyn-Noranda is a Catholic diocese in western Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Latin Church and belongs to the Archdiocese of Gatineau in the Ecclesiastical Province of Gatineau. The diocese was established in 1973 from territory of the Diocese of Timmins, with Jean-Guy Hamelin serving as its first bishop.
The cathedral is Cathédrale Saint-Joseph (Saint Joseph Cathedral) in Rouyn-Noranda. The diocese serves about 58,900 people, with around 97% of them identifying as Catholic.
Current bishop: Joseph Ferdinand Guy Boulanger (since 2020). The metropolitan archbishop is Paul-André Durocher of Gatineau. Other bishops in the diocese’s history include Jean-Guy Hamelin (1973–2001) and Dorylas Moreau (2001–2019). Pierre Goudreault, another priest from this diocese, later became bishop of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière in 2017.
