Vallis Rheita
Vallis Rheita is a long, straight valley on the Moon’s near side, in the southeast, running roughly away from Mare Nectaris. It likely formed with Vallis Snellius to its northeast. The center is at 42.5°S, 51.5°E, and it extends about 445 km. The valley is up to 30 km wide at its widest, narrowing to about 10 km toward the southeast. It is the second-longest of this type on the near side, after Vallis Snellius. Erosion from many impacts has left the valley pitted, and several notable craters lie along its length. At the northwest end is crater Rheita, after which the valley is named. To the southeast lies crater Young, nearly centered across the valley, with nearby Younger D (Young D) also crossing the valley but less distorted. Further southeast are craters Mallet and Reimarus, with the satellite crater Mallet D overlapping part of the valley.
