A Love to Kill is a 2005 South Korean TV drama that blends romance and melodrama. It has 16 episodes and aired on KBS2 from October 31 to December 20, 2005. The main cast includes Rain as Kang Bok-gu, Shin Min-a as Cha Eun-suk, Kim Sa-rang as Han Da-jung, and Lee Ki-woo as Kim Joon-sung.

Plot in simple terms:
Kang Bok-gu is a skilled K-1 fighter who hates fame and never fights to win a title. He lives with Han Da-jung, who saved him from a fire when they were teenagers. Da-jung loves him, but Bok-gu does not love her back and stays with her out of guilt. He later reconnects with his older brother Kang Min-gu, whose engagement news triggers a suicide attempt by Min-gu after learning about Eun-suk, his ex-girlfriend and a rising actress, who is set to marry Joon-sung.

Cha Eun-suk is involved with Joon-sung, but Bok-gu is assigned as her bodyguard and, following a plan inspired by Min-gu’s diary, begins to win Eun-suk over by publicly humiliating her. To his surprise, Eun-suk starts to fall for Bok-gu, and he falls for her too. On the engagement day, Bok-gu convinces Eun-suk to run away, but her family and Joon-sung announce that she has been kidnapped. Bok-gu is arrested, and Eun-suk publicly admits her relationship with him to save him, even though it could ruin her career. Bok-gu then reveals that he is Min-gu’s brother and his revenge plan, which hurts Eun-suk because society frowns on a relationship with the sibling of a dead man.

Eun-suk continues to care for Min-gu, while Bok-gu feels torn. Min-gu eventually dies, and Bok-gu moves him away to prevent Eun-suk from seeing him. A year passes; Eun-suk has retired from acting and Bok-gu becomes famous as a fighter, saving money to open his own auto shop. They meet again, and Min-gu briefly wakes up and recognizes Eun-suk, encouraging them to be together. But social norms keep their romance impossible, so they share one last, carefree day, then part ways to pursue their lives.

The story ends with Eun-suk’s rising career, Bok-gu’s growing fame, and a final, tragic reunion in the snow: they try to escape the cold together, but both die, finally together in death.

Remakes and adaptations:
The tale has an Indonesian remake titled Bodyguard Jatuh Cinta. In Thailand, a remake aired in 2017 under the title Love Hidden Revenge. A Philippine remake with the same title is planned for Netflix in 2022.
