Zhang Nan (gymnast)
Zhang Nan (born April 30, 1986) is a former Chinese artistic gymnast from Beijing. She competed for China at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and at the World Championships in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006. She became the first Chinese woman to win a World Championships all-around medal, taking bronze in 2003. At the 2004 Olympics, she won an individual bronze in the all-around and helped the Chinese team finish seventh.
In 2005 she was hampered by injuries and had to withdraw from the all-around final, but she finished fourth on the balance beam at the World Championships. In 2006 she led the Chinese team to the World Championships team title, and she qualified to the balance beam final with the top score, finishing fourth after injuring her ankle the day before. At the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, she won the balance beam gold and helped China sweep most of the gymnastics gold medals.
After struggling to maintain high difficulty, she did not compete in the 2008 Olympics and retired in 2009. She is married to Teng Haibin, the 2004 Olympic champion, and she later became a coach for the Beijing team.
