ZR (bus)

ZR (pronounced "Zed R") is Barbados’ private taxi-bus system. ZRs are small vans that run routes from Bridgetown to other parts of the island. The name comes from the license-plate code used for many route taxis. ZRs are known for crowded vans, loud music, fast driving, and abrupt stops, as drivers compete to pick up passengers. They usually give change and charge the same fare as government buses: BBD 3.50, paid in cash after boarding. US dollars are usually accepted at an exchange rate of 1 USD = 2 BBD; other currencies are not accepted. ZRs operate from three main terminals and share some routes with minibuses, another type of private bus. The routes are listed by the Barbados Transport Authority.
