George Timothy Clooney is an American and French actor, director, writer, and producer. He was born on May 6, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky. He became famous on TV as Dr. Doug Ross in ER (1994–1999) and then as a movie star in hits like From Dusk Till Dawn, Out of Sight, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and the Ocean’s Eleven series.

Clooney has won two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for Syriana (2005) and Best Picture as a producer for Argo (2012). He has also been nominated for Best Actor for Michael Clayton (2007), Up in the Air (2009), and The Descendants (2011). He has directed several films, including Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), The Ides of March (2011), The Monuments Men (2014), and The Tender Bar (2021). He co-founded Smokehouse Pictures and Casamigos Tequila (the latter sold to Diageo in 2017). In 2025, he made his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, playing Edward R. Murrow, and earned a Tony nomination.

In his personal life, Clooney was married to Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993 and has been married to Amal Alamuddin since 2014. They have twins, Ella and Alexander, born in 2017. In 2025, Clooney and Amal became French citizens, and they plan to raise their family on a farm in France.

Clooney is known for his humanitarian work. He has been a United Nations Messenger of Peace since 2008 and co-founded Not On Our Watch to prevent mass atrocities. He has supported Darfur relief, Armenian genocide recognition, and aid after the Haiti earthquake and the Beirut explosion. He has endorsed Democratic candidates, including Obama and Biden. He owns homes in Los Angeles and Lake Como, Italy, among other properties, and remains active in film, television, and philanthropy. He has received many honors, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award (2015) and the AFI Life Achievement Award (2018).
