Yury Trutnev
Yury Petrovich Trutnev (born 1 March 1956 in Perm) is a Russian politician who has held major government roles. Since 31 August 2013, he has been Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and the President’s envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, with brief acting periods in May 2018 and January 2020.
Earlier in his career, Trutnev was Minister of Natural Resources and Environment from 2004 to 2012, Mayor of Perm from 1996 to 2000, Governor of Perm Oblast from 2000 to 2004, and Assistant to the President from 2012 to 2013. He is a member of the United Russia party (since 2007).
Trutnev has been noted for his high income in government service, reporting 155 million rubles in income in 2010 and having been hailed as one of Russia’s highest-earning officials in 2008–2009. In 2010, he criticized Russia’s seal-killing ban as “bloody,” saying the killing of young harp seals cannot be considered hunting.
In 2022, both the United States and the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on him in relation to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
