Yang Mi
Yang Mi (born September 12, 1986 in Beijing), also known as Mini Yang, is a Chinese actress, singer, and TV producer. She started as a child actor in 1990 and moved to adult roles in the 2000s. Her breakout came with Palace (2011), which made her very popular and earned her several awards. She has starred in many hit series, including The Return of the Condor Heroes (2006), Chinese Paladin 3 (2009), Ru Yi (2011), Beauty World (2012), Swords of Legends (2014), The Interpreter (2016), Eternal Love (2017), Legend of Fuyao (2018), Novoland: Pearl Eclipse (2021), and In the Name of the Brother (2024), which was nominated for Best Series Drama at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
In film, she gained attention with Mysterious Island (2011) and the Tiny Times series (2013–2015). She won Best Actress at WorldFest-Houston for Reset (2017) and received critical praise for Baby (2018), which played at the Toronto and San Sebastián film festivals. She has been named one of China’s New Four Dan Actresses and, by 2024, was ranked the top Chinese advertising celebrity by Statista.
Her personal life: She was born to a police officer father and a housewife mother and studied at the Beijing Film Academy. She married Hawick Lau in 2014 and they divorced in 2018; they have one daughter. She left Jiaxing Media in 2023. In 2021 she cut ties with Adidas over Xinjiang cotton, an action widely echoed by Chinese celebrities.
