Daf-4
DAF-4 is the only type II receptor in the TGF-beta signaling pathway of the worm Caenorhabditis elegans. It binds two ligands, Daf-7 and Dbl-1. If Daf-7 binds, DAF-4 pairs with the type I receptor DAF-1 and activates the Smad proteins Daf-8/14. If Dbl-1 binds, DAF-4 pairs with the type I receptor SMA-6 and activates the Smad proteins SMA-2/3/4. Through these pathways, DAF-4 helps control development and dauer formation in C. elegans.
