Yaña Şaşı
Yaña Şaşı is a rural village (selo) in Ätnä District, Tatarstan, Russia. As of 2010, its population was 196. It is about 40 km north of the district center Olı Ätnä and 103 km northeast of Kazan by road. The village was founded in the 17th century. Its name means “new Şaşı” from yaña (new) and Şaşı (a local name). In the 18th–19th centuries the residents belonged to the social estate of state peasants. By the early 20th century it had a mosque and two small shops.
Before 1920, Yaña Şaşı was part of Çar Uyezd in Kazan Governorate. Since 1920 it has been part of Arça Canton. With the creation of districts in the Tatar ASSR (now Tatarstan), it became part of Tuqay District (1930–1935), then Tuqay District again (1935–1963) (formerly Qızıl Yul), then Arça District (1963–1990), and now it is in Ätnä District.
