Mugen Puchipuchi
Mugen Puchipuchi is a Japanese bubble wrap keychain toy made by Bandai. The name combines “puchipuchi,” the sound of popping bubbles, with a trademark term for bubble wrap. The toy has eight buttons that make popping sounds and is designed to feel like infinite bubble wrap. It’s built with a double-layer silicone rubber to imitate the real sensation. Every 100 pops, it plays a short sound effect, such as a door chime, barking dog, fart, or a sexy voice.
Bandai worked with the company behind real Puchipuchi bubble wrap to make the design as realistic as possible. There are other Bandai keychain toys based on Mugen Puchipuchi, including Puchi Moe, Mugen Edamame, and Mugen Periperi. In Europe and North America, the original Mugen Puchipuchi was sold as “Mugen Pop-Pop.”
Puchi Moe is an anime-themed version. Instead of random sounds, it uses one of four anime characters’ voices (each voice is by Rie Kugimiya) with archetypes like a childhood friend, French maid, tsundere, or younger sister.
Mugen Edamame contains beans inside a pod that you squeeze; a bean pops out to reveal one of twelve pre-set faces. It does not play sounds.
Mugen Periperi imitates the tearing strip of a cardboard box. It was released on November 22, 2008.
Bandai released a WiiWare game on June 24, 2008, called Ouchi de Mugen Puchi Puchi Wii, which translates roughly to “In-Your-Home Infinite Bubble Wrap Wii.”
