Parlor Hawk is an American indie rock band formed in 2009 by designer Andrew Clifford Capener in Utah. The band includes TJ Nokleby, Andrew Dyer, Mark Garbett, and Jay Tibbitts. Their first album, Hoarse & Roaring, released in summer 2010, blends neofolk and indie folk with rock. It was produced by Joshua James, mixed by Todd Burke, mastered by Reuben Cohen, with guests Brandon Campbell and Stuart Maxfield. The album gained attention on iTunes, appearing in indie spotlight features and best-of lists, and a Yamaha/TuneCore sampler from the album topped the Amazon Free MP3 chart with over 20,000 downloads.

In 2011, The Salt Lake Tribune named Parlor Hawk Next Emerging Band. They won Best Acoustic Song for "Saddest Song" at the Independent Music Awards in 2012 and were nominated for Best Album Art. They toured the U.S. in 2010–2011 with Joshua James and Desert Noises, and did a residency in Singapore in May 2011. They also opened for acts like The Civil Wars, Sharon Van Etten, The Weepies, Train, and others.

In 2013 they chose not to renew their deal with Northplatte Records and pre-sold their second album to fans, raising over $15,000 for recording costs. The self-titled follow-up, aiming for a more rock sound, was produced by Nate Pyfer and mixed by Scott Wiley, with Pyfer co-writing "Better Gone," and released February 18, 2014. It became Utah’s most popular Bandcamp album at the time and was featured on NoiseTrade in 2015. Songs from the album gained national exposure, with "Scars" appearing on Switched at Birth (Season 3), and other tracks in the Sons of Anarchy finale (Season 6) and Teen Mom 2.
