The Workers’ Party (PT) is a left-wing, Trotskyist political party in Algeria. It aims to defend workers’ rights, keep key services in public hands, and promote a fair distribution of wealth. The party was founded in 1990 after Algeria introduced a multiparty system, and its Secretary-General is Louisa Hanoune.

What it stands for
- Public ownership of natural resources, land, and essential services; opposition to privatization
- Free, compulsory public education up to age 16
- Public health care and the right to housing
- A national development plan funded by public investment and agrarian reform
- Canceling external debt and opposing imperialist institutions
- A Constituent Assembly elected by direct universal suffrage

International and relations
- The PT is part of the International Liaison Committee for a Workers’ International
- It has close ties with France’s Independent Workers’ Party

Electoral highlights
- 2002: about 3.3% of votes and 21 parliamentary seats
- 2004: Louisa Hanoune became the first Arab woman to run for Algeria’s presidency
- 2007: the party was the main opposition, roughly 5% of the vote and 26 seats
- 2007 local elections: won in many municipalities, around 6.5% of the vote

The PT continues to advocate for workers’ representation and socialist policies in Algeria.
