Verzlunarskóli Íslands, usually called Verzló (Commercial College of Iceland), is a private Icelandic gymnasium in Reykjavík. Founded in 1905, it is the oldest private school in Iceland and serves students from all over the country. The school has more than 1,000 pupils, all in mixed classes, aged 16–19. The school day runs from about 8:15 a.m. to 3:40 p.m., Monday to Friday, with two semesters: fall and spring.

The three-year program leads to the stúdentspróf, Iceland’s standard university entrance qualification, which is also recognized worldwide. In the first year all students follow a common curriculum. In years two and three they choose a stream in business, science and social sciences, or languages/arts. A strong focus on practical business subjects (like accounting, economics, and computer studies) helps students earn the Verzlunarpróf (Commercial Diploma) at the end of year two. The final two years complete the stúdentspróf, roughly comparable to two years of college study.

Verzló is a non-profit organization run under Charter No. 272/1993 and has been under the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce since 1922. Its mission is to strengthen Icelandic industry by providing solid general and business education at secondary and higher levels. About 400 students graduate from Verzló each year.

Every October, Verzló students meet their rival school, Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, for games and competitions in downtown Reykjavík, followed by a debating event in the evening. The school’s address is Ofanleiti 1, Reykjavík 103, Iceland. Website: verslo.is/english.
