Willie Wilde, full name William Charles Kingsbury Wilde, was an Irish journalist and poet in the Victorian era. He was the older brother of Oscar Wilde.

Willie was born on 26 September 1852 in Dublin to Sir William Wilde, a famous ear and eye surgeon, and Jane Wilde, a writer and Irish nationalist. The Wilde family was well known in Dublin, and they hosted a literary salon at Merrion Square. Willie and Oscar attended Portora Royal School, where Willie was known for his good humor. They later studied at Trinity College, Dublin; Willie published poems and edited the college magazine.

After college, Willie trained as a lawyer but never practiced. In 1879 he moved to London and became a journalist. He worked as a drama critic for Punch and Vanity Fair, wrote for The Daily Telegraph, and edited Christmas issues of several magazines. He was popular for his wit but also noted for his heavy drinking.

Willie married twice. His first wife was Miriam Leslie, a wealthy widow from New York, whom he married in 1891 and divorced in 1893 because of his drinking and other troubles. In 1894 he married Sophie Lily Lees, with whom he had a daughter, Dorothy “Dolly” Wilde, in 1895.

Throughout this time, Willie had financial problems and a strained relationship with Oscar, though Oscar did help him at times. Willie died on 13 March 1899 in Chelsea, London, at age 46 from complications related to alcoholism.

After his death, Oscar Wilde’s reaction showed a mix of sorrow and resignation. Willie's widow later remarried.
