William Percy Sharpe

William Percy Sharpe (1871–1942) was an American Democratic politician who served as Mayor of Nashville, Tennessee. Born in Anderson, South Carolina, he moved to Nashville around 1900 and worked in the furniture business, co-founding Sharpe & Wherry and later Sharpe Furniture Co. The Nashville city council elected him to replace Mayor Felix Zollicoffer Wilson, and he served from November 24, 1922, to June 5, 1923. He later served on the Davidson County Court from 1924 to 1930. He was married to Julia Margaret Nichol, and they had two children: William Percy Sharpe, Jr. and Elizabeth Sharpe Deener. He attended the West End Methodist Church. Sharpe died in Madison, Tennessee, on November 13, 1942, and was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville. A week after his death, his Nashville house burned down.
