Panayotis Panagopoulos (Greek: Παναγιώτης Παναγόπουλος; born 15 August 1916, died 1999) was a prominent Greek chess player. He won the Greek Chess Championship in 1957 and represented Greece in international events, including three Chess Olympiads. Active mainly in the 1950s, he helped restart competitive chess in Greece after World War II. Panagopoulos was known for a solid, positional style, preferring patient maneuvering and strong endgames over sharp attacks. Beyond competing, he mentored young players and helped establish chess clubs and tournaments, contributing to the sport’s development in Greece. His efforts helped popularize and raise the level of Greek chess during his era.
