Will Byers

Will Byers is a character from the Netflix series Stranger Things. He is a shy, kind boy from Hawkins, Indiana. He is Joyce Byers’s son and Jonathan Byers’s brother. He becomes close to Eleven, who stays with the family at times.

In November 1983, Will disappears after an encounter with a monster from the Upside Down. At first, people think he is dead, but he is later found unconscious and connected to the Upside Down. He communicates with his mother Joyce using lights, and Hopper helps bring him back. He returns with scars and strange side effects, including a slug-like creature and visions from the other world.

Will struggles with trauma and is watched by doctors. The Mind Flayer sometimes tries to take control of him, and the group must help him. He is part of the group’s Dungeons & Dragons adventures, earning the nickname “Will the Wise.”

After these events, Will and his family move from Hawkins to Lenora Hills, California, seeking a safer life. He still stays connected to his Hawkins friends and keeps facing danger from the Upside Down.

In later seasons, Will discovers he has a strong psychic link to the Upside Down. He can sense monsters and sometimes helps his friends from a distance. In the final battles, he uses his powers to fight Vecna and helps save Max and others.

In the last season, Will comes out as gay to his family and friends. He explains that Vecna showed him visions of his life and relationships, and his friends support him. After the battles, the group graduates from Hawkins High. Will moves away with his family and begins to build a life where he can be himself, finding support in a new community outside Hawkins.

In real life, the actor who plays Will is Noah Schnapp. He joined Stranger Things in 2015 and became a regular cast member in 2016. Schnapp’s performance has been praised, and he publicly came out as gay in 2023, aligning with Will’s story.
