"When You Lie Next to Me" is Kellie Coffey’s debut single. It comes from her debut album of the same name. Coffey co-wrote the song with Trina Harmon and J.D. Martin. It was released on December 3, 2001 to country radio by BNA Records as the lead single. The track is 3:59 long and is a country ballad with piano, strings and steel guitar. The lyrics are from a female narrator who expresses strong feelings for her lover whenever he lies next to her and urges them not to waste any time together.

The song reached number eight on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and number 14 on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart, spending 33 weeks on the country chart. AllMusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine called it one of the standout tracks and said it could be a staple on adult contemporary radio.

The music video, directed by Deaton-Flanigan Productions, shows Coffey performing in various parts of a large house, such as a windy hallway, a candlelit room, and a pedestal in the middle of a pool.

Produced by Dann Huff and Kellie Coffey, the song was released by BNA.
