Ruxandra Mihaela Botez is an aerospace design engineer who specializes in aircraft modeling, simulation and control. She was born in Bucharest, Romania, and earned her aerospace design engineering degree from Politehnica University of Bucharest in 1984 before moving to Canada in 1987. She later earned a master's degree at École Polytechnique de Montréal and a PhD in mechanical engineering at McGill University in 1994, followed by a postdoctoral stint at Auburn University.

Botez worked at Bombardier Aviation before joining École de technologie supérieure (ETS) as a professor in 1998. In 2003 she founded the Laboratory of Applied Research in Active Controls, Avionics and AeroServoElasticity (LARCASE). She led projects funded by CRIAQ, NSERC and industry partners, including collaborations with Bell Textron on the Bell 427 Level D simulator and with Bombardier and Thales on morphing wings.

From 2009 to 2019 she collaborated with CMC Electronics on new methods for aircraft trajectory optimization to reduce fuel use in flight management systems. In 2021 she became editor-in-chief of the INCAS bulletin. Her research focuses on wing design and controller design. She is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and serves as a full professor at ETS, holding the Canada Research Chair in Systems Engineering.
