Weightlifting (album)
Weightlifting is the fourth studio album by the Scottish pop/rock band Trashcan Sinatras, released in 2004. The band financed the project with a grant from the Scottish Arts Council. The album runs 44 minutes and 19 seconds and blends indie pop and jangle pop. It was released on SpinART and produced by Simon Dine along with the Trashcan Sinatras.
Critics had mixed views. The Washington Post said the album is less lively than the band's earlier work and features string-dominated songs about themes like unfaithful lovers, grieving widowers, and unsolved child murders. Exclaim! noted many tracks are slower and more introspective about love, while other upbeat songs have catchy guitar melodies and hopeful vocals. The A.V. Club pointed out that some songs edge toward adult-contemporary, but the band still aims for something more mature. Robert Christgau called the album a dud.
